-- The original Pizza Metro at 1707 W. Division St. (at Paulina); 773-278-1753.

The crust is buttery and of a type I've only seen in Chicago. It's similar to Lou Malnati's crust but thinner and crisp. A joint called Pizano's makes a similar pizza but I've always found its crust weirdly sour, as if it's fermented. Pizza Metro's potato topping is pure genius: parcooked slices under a blanket of cheese, transforming pizza from a greasy indulgence to something approaching a square meal! Hallelujah! A call to the original Pizza Metro yielded this pertinent bit of info: Pizza Metro 2 at 925 North Ashland Avenue is not a part of this local micro-chain. According to the man who answered the phone at Pizza Metro, the owner of the business sold this location and it now offers "a different product." Accept no imitators!
OK, WAIT A MINUTE: I just realized that the potato-rosemary "white" pizza that I like so much is actually from Pizza Metro 2 (925 N. Ashland Ave.; 773-772-3267). So accept no imitators, except maybe this one if you happen to be ordering this one specific pizza.

Hmmm, if the white pizza is so good, maybe everything else at Pizza Metro 2 is too. Maybe you need to have a Pizza Metro vs. Pizza Metro 2 contest. Then we'll see who the real imitator is.
Spoken like a true foodist. Imprimatur means nothing; taste is all!
